In Loving Memory of Peter J. Hemingway

Peter J. Hemingway, a devoted husband, loving father, and esteemed finance professional, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024, at the age of 62. A longtime resident of Westford, Massachusetts, Peter was known for his unwavering dedication to his family, his accomplished career, and his deep love of sailing.

A Life of Dedication and Achievement

Born on January 10, 1962, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Peter was the son of the late Elizabeth (Scully) and Vincent Hemingway. From an early age, he displayed a keen intellect and a strong work ethic, which led him to pursue higher education at Babson College. He earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees in finance, a field in which he would go on to build an exceptional career.

Peter specialized in financial strategy within the ophthalmological medical device industry, where he became a respected leader known for his keen analytical skills and integrity. His colleagues valued his insight, mentorship, and steady leadership, which left a lasting impact on the industry and those who worked alongside him.

A Passion for Sailing and the Sea

Beyond his professional life, Peter found immense joy in sailing. He spent countless hours navigating the waters of Buzzards Bay, whether racing with his brother Chris and the Seefest crew or enjoying peaceful cruises with his family on his beloved sailboat, The Surprise. His love for the sea was not just a hobby but a passion that brought him closer to nature and those he cherished most.

A Devoted Family Man

Peter was a man of quiet strength and unwavering love for his family. He shared 38 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Christina (Sica) Hemingway, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories. He was a proud father to Lauren Hemingway and her husband, Robert Paro of Acton, and Jeremy Hemingway and his wife, Katherine of Cambridge. One of his greatest joys in recent years was becoming a grandfather to his precious grandson, Julian.

Peter is also survived by his brother, Thomas Hemingway; his sisters, Maureen Hemingway, Elizabeth Pye and her husband James, and Barbara Hemingway; his sister-in-law, Cheryle Hemingway; and his stepmother, Paula Hemingway. He was predeceased by his brothers Christopher and Vincent Hemingway.

Honoring His Legacy

A Celebration of Life service was held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Westford, Massachusetts. Family, friends, and colleagues gathered to remember and honor Peter’s remarkable life, sharing stories of his kindness, wisdom, and enduring impact.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requested that donations be made to the St. Mark’s Outreach Fund, which supports local charities and those in need—causes that were close to Peter’s heart.

Peter Hemingway’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His steadfast dedication, generosity, and love of the sea will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of being part of his life.
